the short version
  • Google News scraping means pulling headlines, sources, publish dates, snippets, and publisher links from news.google.com or Google's News tab, past the consent wall and JavaScript that block a raw request.
  • Two API shapes work here: dedicated Google News endpoints (SearchApi, SerpApi, Scrape.do) that return parsed article JSON, and general SERP APIs (Oxylabs, Bright Data, ScraperAPI) that fetch the News tab and parse it for you.
  • ChocoData is my top value pick: one universal endpoint plus 250+ dedicated endpoints, a free tier of 1,000 requests/mo, and paid plans from $19/mo, so you can point it at Google News and other targets on one key.
  • Documented entry prices in mid-2026 run from $0 free tiers to $25/mo (SerpApi Starter), $29/mo (Scrape.do Hobby), and $40/mo (SearchApi Developer). Billing units differ: searches, requests, credits, and results are not directly comparable.
  • Speed and success figures below are approximate, compiled from vendor-published numbers and aggregated public sources, not first-hand. Independent like-for-like benchmarks are pending (how we test).

Google News is the single biggest aggregator a media-monitoring or brand-tracking team wants, and it is also one of the more annoying targets: a consent wall for cookieless bots, JavaScript-rendered results, and links wrapped in redirects. This page compares the Google News scraping APIs I would shortlist in 2026, ranked on the things that decide a purchase: starting price, free tier, structured output, and how cleanly each one returns article fields. My top pick is ChocoData for its free tier and low entry price on a universal endpoint. Every price and feature below comes from the vendor’s own pricing or product page in mid-2026, attributed inline, because review-site numbers go stale fast.

One disclosure up front: bestscraperapi.com earns affiliate commissions from some of the vendors listed here. That does not change which tools make the list, how I rank them, or what I write. Pricing comes straight from each vendor’s own page, and the ranking follows documented price and features, not payout.

A note on the performance numbers further down. Speed and success-rate figures are approximate, compiled from each vendor’s published numbers plus aggregated public sources. They are not first-hand bestscraperapi.com tests. Vendors measure on their own targets under their own conditions, so treat the figures as directional. My independent, like-for-like Google News benchmarks are pending; see how we test for the methodology.

1. ChocoData

ChocoData homepage

ChocoData is my top pick for Google News scraping because it gives you the broadest reach for the lowest entry cost. One universal endpoint covers Google News alongside 250+ dedicated structured endpoints, so a single key handles your news queries and whatever else you scrape next without juggling separate plans. For a monitoring stack that touches Google News, Google SERP, and a few publisher sites, that consolidation is the practical win.

Pricing

Per ChocoData’s pricing page in mid-2026, the free plan is $0 for 1,000 requests a month (5,000 credits) with no credit card and 10 concurrent requests. Paid tiers start at $19/mo (Vibe) for 27,000 requests a month, then $49/mo (Pro) for 82,000, with custom plans from $100 to $2,000 flat at $0.50 per 1,000 requests. Pay-as-you-go top-ups run $0.90 per 1,000 successful requests. That $19 entry undercuts every dedicated Google News API on this list.

Standout features

The universal endpoint takes a target and returns validated, parity-checked JSON, so you point it at a Google News query and get structured article data back instead of raw HTML to parse. Proxies, JavaScript rendering, and the consent-wall handling sit behind the call. Because the same key reaches 235 sites and 450+ endpoints, you avoid the per-vendor sprawl that comes from buying a separate Google News tool plus an e-commerce tool plus a SERP tool.

Best for

Founders and small teams that want Google News data plus room to grow into other targets without stacking subscriptions. The free 1,000 requests a month is enough to prototype a media-monitoring feed, and the $19 paid step keeps the cost lower than the dedicated news APIs while covering the same Google News use case. Performance is approximate, compiled from vendor and public sources, not first-hand; independent benchmarks are pending (how we test).

2. SearchApi

SearchApi homepage

SearchApi runs a purpose-built Google News endpoint, which makes it the cleanest choice when you want parsed news fields and nothing else to think about. You call engine=google_news with a query and get back organic results and top stories as JSON, with the consent and rendering handled for you.

Pricing

Per SearchApi’s pricing page in mid-2026, plans start at $40/mo (Developer) for 10,000 searches, then $100/mo (Production) for 35,000 and $250/mo (BigData) for 100,000, scaling up to multi-million-search “Octo” tiers. Sign-up includes 100 free requests with no credit card and no commitment. Failed requests are not charged, only successful 200-status searches, and an hourly cap limits usage to 20% of monthly credits.

Standout features

The Google News endpoint returns organic_results with position, title, link, source, date, snippet, favicon, and thumbnail, plus a separate top_stories block, per its documentation in mid-2026. Parameters cover real newsroom needs: time_period for last_hour through last_year, custom date ranges, sort_by=most_recent, gl and hl for country and language, plus location and device. That time-filtering and recency sort is what separates a usable news feed from a generic SERP dump.

Best for

Teams that want rich, ready-to-store Google News JSON with strong date and recency controls and will run enough volume to clear the $40 entry. If your only target is Google News and you value parameter depth over multi-site reach, SearchApi is the focused option. The 100 free requests let you validate field coverage before paying.

3. SerpApi

SerpApi homepage

SerpApi is the established SERP vendor with a dedicated Google News API, and it stands out for offering both a full News endpoint and a cheaper Google News Light variant. That split lets you trade field richness for cost when you scrape at volume and do not need every attribute.

Pricing

Per SerpApi’s pricing page in mid-2026, the free plan gives 250 searches a month at $0. Paid plans start at $25/mo (Starter) for 1,000 searches, then $75/mo (Developer) for 5,000, $150/mo (Production) for 15,000, and $275/mo (Big Data) for 30,000, with enterprise pricing on request. The $25 Starter is the lowest paid entry among the dedicated Google News tools here.

Standout features

SerpApi exposes a Google News API and a Google News Light API, per its pricing page in mid-2026, so you pick the response weight that fits the job. The platform is known for legal-compliance positioning and a stable parser, which matters when Google rotates its News markup. The 250-search free tier renews monthly, unlike one-time trial credits, so you can run a small recurring monitoring job without paying.

Best for

Developers who want a mature, well-documented Google News API with a recurring free allowance and a low $25 paid step. The Light variant suits high-volume jobs where you only need core fields. If you already use SerpApi for Google SERP, adding News keeps everything on one account.

4. Scrape.do

Scrape.do homepage

Scrape.do covers Google News two ways, and its dedicated endpoint is the differentiator: one call returns roughly 100 articles with direct publisher URLs, removing the Google redirect hop that slows most monitoring pipelines. It also has the most generous recurring free tier among the dedicated options.

Pricing

Per Scrape.do’s pricing page in mid-2026, the free plan gives 1,000 successful API calls a month with 5 concurrent requests and no card. Paid plans start at $29/mo (Hobby) for 250,000 credits, then $99/mo (Pro) for 1,250,000, $249/mo (Business) for 3,500,000, and $699/mo (Advanced) for 10,000,000, billed only on successful calls. The dedicated news endpoint costs 10 credits per request.

Standout features

The google/news endpoint returns structured JSON with about 100 articles per call, direct publisher links (no Google redirector to follow), ISO 8601 dates, author info, and topic and publication tokens for navigating Google’s news graph, per its blog in mid-2026. If you prefer the News tab, the general API targets tbm=nws with super=true for bot detection and render=true as a fallback. The direct-link output is the standout for anyone tired of resolving redirects.

Best for

Monitoring and alerting workloads that ingest many articles per query and want publisher URLs straight from the response. The 1,000-call free tier renews monthly, so a light brand-tracking feed can run at no cost. Scrape.do also fits teams that want a single API for both the News tab and the structured news endpoint.

5. ScraperAPI

ScraperAPI homepage

ScraperAPI is a general-purpose scraper API with structured-data endpoints and News tab support, so it fits when Google News is one of several targets rather than the whole job. Its strength is simple integration and parsed JSON from dedicated endpoints; its watch-out is the credit multiplier on rendered requests.

Pricing

Per ScraperAPI’s documentation in mid-2026, the free plan is 1,000 credits a month with 5 threads, and the trial gives 5,000 credits for the first 7 days. Confirmed paid tiers are Professional at $975/mo (10.5M credits) and Advanced at $1,975/mo (21.5M credits); the lower Hobby and Startup tiers are slider-priced from around $49/mo, so confirm the current figure at the source. Plain requests cost 1 credit, but render=true costs 10 and premium routing costs more, which inflates the real per-article price on JavaScript-heavy News pages.

Standout features

ScraperAPI charges only for successful requests after its internal retries, and it offers structured endpoints for Google, Amazon, Walmart, and eBay alongside an async scraper for batch jobs, per its docs in mid-2026. For Google News specifically you fetch the News tab and parse it, typically with rendering on, which is where the 10x credit cost lands. Integration is well-documented across six languages.

Where it falls short

Because Google News needs rendering to return article nodes, the 10-credit render multiplier erodes the credit allowance fast, so the effective cost per 1,000 news pages climbs well above the headline rate. Country-level geotargeting is also gated to higher tiers. If Google News is your main target, a dedicated news endpoint will usually be cheaper per article. Speed and success figures are approximate, compiled from vendor and public sources, not first-hand.

6. Oxylabs

Oxylabs homepage

Oxylabs is the enterprise SERP option, and it exposes Google News Search as a distinct parsed target rather than leaving you to scrape the tab yourself. It suits teams that need reliability and scale and have budget to match.

Pricing

Per Oxylabs’ SERP Scraper API page in mid-2026, the free trial gives up to 2,000 results with no card. Paid plans start at $49/mo (Micro) for up to 98,000 results, then $99/mo (Starter) for 220,000 and $249/mo (Advanced) for 622,500. Google results run roughly $0.80 to $1.00 per 1,000 without rendering and $1.25 to $1.35 with rendering, so budget for the rendered rate on News pages.

Standout features

Oxylabs lists “Google: News Search” as a dedicated target with 25 parsed data points, per its product page in mid-2026, so you get structured article fields without writing selectors. The infrastructure carries a large residential and datacenter proxy pool with broad geotargeting, which helps when you need region-specific News results at volume. The parsed-target approach removes the consent-wall and rendering work from your side.

Best for

Larger media-intelligence and research teams that need parsed Google News at scale with strong geographic coverage and can clear a $49 entry plus per-result costs. If you already run Oxylabs for other SERP or e-commerce targets, News Search slots into the same API. For a single small feed, the dedicated news endpoints above will cost less.

7. Bright Data

Bright Data homepage

Bright Data rounds out the list as a high-volume SERP API that counts News among many search types. It is the choice when your news scraping is part of a much larger, multi-vertical data operation and you want pay-as-you-go flexibility.

Pricing

Per Bright Data’s SERP API page in mid-2026, the free tier gives 5,000 requests a month with no card. Pay-as-you-go is $1.50 per 1,000 requests with success-only billing, and the Scale plan is $499/mo for 380,000 requests at $1.30 per 1,000 beyond that. Enterprise pricing is on request. The pay-as-you-go model means no minimum commitment, which suits spiky monitoring loads.

Standout features

Bright Data’s SERP API covers News alongside Shopping, Maps, Hotels, Images, Trends, Reviews, Flights, Ads, Videos, and Jobs, and supports the tbm=nws news parameter, per its product page in mid-2026. The platform’s scale and proxy depth are its calling card, with success-only billing on the SERP product. For Google News specifically you target the News search type and get results parsed from Google’s response.

Where it falls short

Bright Data prices and packaging aim at high volume, so the per-request economics only work in your favor once you scrape a lot; for a small News feed the dedicated endpoints are simpler and cheaper. The breadth of the platform also adds onboarding overhead. Speed and success figures are approximate, compiled from vendor and public sources, not first-hand; benchmarks pending (how we test).

How to choose the right one

The decision comes down to whether Google News is your whole job or one target among many, and how much volume you push.

If you are still learning the fundamentals before you buy, start with the web scraping guide and the playbook on scraping without getting blocked, since Google News combines a consent wall, JavaScript, and link redirects that trip up most first attempts.

How we evaluated these

I shortlisted these tools by checking each vendor’s own pricing and product documentation for explicit Google News support, then compared documented entry price, free tier, structured output, and parameter depth. Every figure here is quoted from the vendor’s own page and is current as of mid-2026; pricing and plan structures change often, so confirm the live numbers before you commit. Performance claims are approximate and compiled from vendor-published figures plus aggregated public sources, not first-hand testing. My independent, like-for-like Google News benchmarks are in progress; see how we test for the full methodology.

FAQ

Does Google News have an official API?

No. Google retired its News API years ago and offers no public, documented endpoint for News results today. The undocumented RSS feed at news.google.com/rss returns roughly 100 items per query with title, source, and date, but it omits snippets and thumbnails and rewrites every link as a Google redirect. For full fields, pagination, topic tokens, or scale, a scraper API that exposes a parsed Google News endpoint is the practical route.

What is the cheapest way to scrape Google News?

Start on a free tier and only pay when volume forces it. Scrape.do gives 1,000 successful calls a month free, SerpApi gives 250 searches a month, SearchApi gives 100 one-time requests, and ChocoData gives 1,000 requests a month with no card. For paid entry, SerpApi starts at $25/mo, Scrape.do at $29/mo, and ChocoData at $19/mo, per each vendor's pricing page in mid-2026. Match the billing unit to your query volume before committing.

Why does scraping Google News with requests and BeautifulSoup return nothing?

Two reasons. Google News redirects a no-cookie bot to a consent or sign-in wall, so the HTML you get back is the wall, not articles. And the results render through JavaScript, so even past the wall a plain HTML fetch parses zero items because the article nodes are not in the initial markup. You need a headless browser or a scraper API that renders the page and handles the consent step, which is what every tool on this list does.

Is scraping Google News legal?

Reading public Google News pages with a script sits on the safer side of US computer-access law after hiQ v. LinkedIn and Van Buren, but two limits apply. Google's terms of service restrict automated access as a contract matter, and article bodies remain copyrighted by the original publisher. The safer pattern is to store headlines, links, sources, and dates rather than reproduce full article text, and to license content directly when you need the body. I test tools, I am not a lawyer, so get advice before a commercial scrape.

Can these APIs return direct publisher links instead of Google redirects?

Some do. Google News wraps every article link in a redirect, which slows monitoring because you have to resolve each one. Dedicated endpoints like Scrape.do's google/news return direct publisher URLs in the JSON, per its blog in mid-2026, which removes that hop. General SERP APIs that parse the News tab usually return the link as Google presents it, so check the sample output of each vendor before you build resolution logic you may not need.
